Oregon Racing
From the DRF:

Wednesday's second running of the Dennis Dodge Memorial would have had the late Daily Racing Form reporter extremely excited, Portland Meadows director of racing Jerry Kohls says.

"This is going to be a really good race," Kohls said. "It should be competitive, and we have two horses that could be special."

Posted by: admin on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 - 11:41 AM
Oregon Breeding
Portland Meadows and Spirit Mountain Casino are teaming up to present the biggest day in Oregon horse racing of the year, Spirit Mountain Oregon Championship Day.

On Monday December 14, 2009, the top Oregon-bred Thoroughbred race horses will contest five stakes races worth over $70,000. Headlining the event will be the two premier events for two year olds in Oregon, The Bill and Janet Wineberg Stakes. The $20,000 Bill Wineberg Stakes will see 2 year old colts and geldings compete at six furlongs, while the $20,000 Janet Wineberg Stakes will match two year old fillies at the same six furlong distance.

“We’re so excited to partner with Spirit Mountain Casino for what will be a great day of racing,” said Portland Meadows General Manager Will Alempijevic. “It will truly be a great celebration of all things Oregon.”

Also on the Spirit Mountain Oregon Championship Day card will be the $10,000 Lethal Grande Oregon Sprint Championship for older horses at six furlongs. The race is named after Lethal Grande who is the state’s all time leading money earner. The $10,000 Oregon His Stakes for three year old boys at one mile and one sixteenth, and the $10,000 Oregon Hers Stakes for 3 year old fillies at one mile will complete the stakes action.

“Spirit Mountain Casino, the Northwest’s Premier Entertainment Destination is proud to be a presenting sponsor of this prestigious event at Portland Meadows,” said Spirit Mountain Casino CEO Rodney Ferguson.

Another exciting event planned for Oregon Championship Day will be the Almost Winter Fair. In addition to the finest Oregon-bred Thoroughbreds racing on the track, the Almost Winter Fair will feature some of the state’s finest brewers, winemakers, confectioners and merchants. These local vendors will be showcasing their fantastic local libations, snacks and products for fans to check out. Portland Meadows patrons will be able to sample many of these fine local products, all while enjoying the action and excitement of live Thoroughbred racing.

First Post time for Spirit Mountain Oregon Championship Day will be Portland Meadows regular start time of 12:45pm PST. Portland Meadows offers live Thoroughbred racing each and every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday with first post at 12:45pm PST. Perfect Finish and Quinalt Take Stakes @ PM

Posted by: admin on Wednesday, November 04, 2009 - 09:23 PM
Oregon Racing
Portland Meadows featured two stakes races on Wednesday and both winners showcased extreme talent and heart. Perfect Finish sat a very good trip, moved up three wide turning for home, and pulled away in hand to win the $18,000 Diane Kem Handicap. Later in the day, Quinalt withstood the challenge down the stretch from Shivers Me and Inhoc Signo Vinces to win a thrilling edition of the Nub Norton Memorial Handicap.

Perfect Finish maintained her perfect local record at Portland Meadows with her impressive four and one half length score in the Diane Kem Handicap. She has now won 5 of 10 career starts and has earnings of over $48,000. Perfect Finish was bred/owned and trained by Howard Belvoir. There was a dead heat for second between the early pace setter Jimbos Fire Ant and closer Sheen Falls. Final time for the six furlongs was 1:10.86.

The day’s ninth race was the $18,000 Nub Norton Stakes, featuring a dramatic three way stretch drive, with even-money favorite Quinalt prevailing by a hard fought neck over Shivers Me. Inhoc Signo Vinces was right with them much of the way, but faded in the final strides to third. Quinalt was sent off as the 3/5 post time favorite and completed the mile and seventy yards in 1:43.84.
