Portland Meadows Announcer Jason Beem takes the show to Southern Oregon this weekend. The "Beat the Announcer" OTB promotion travels to JD's Sports Pub in Grants Pass on Saturday and to Lava Lanes in Medford on Sunday.

Once again, we'll be handing out surprises to the youngsters who come through the gate at Grants Pass Downs this weekend. The first 200 kids will get a horse related prize, and the opportunity to participate in a grand prize drawing. Hope we see you there!
DON JACKSON, the dean of racing at Grants Pass Downs, was shaking his head last Sunday just before all 11 races were scrapped because of a boggy track.
"This wouldn't have happened with the new dirt," he said.

Because there was not an agreement in place between Horsemen and Magna, Magna's application for a 2009-10 racing license was not acted upon by the Racing Commission today. The Commission is expected to take up the issue again as part of the July meeting.
Apparently, unlike previous years, the two sides are not that far apart. Will Alempijevic, Portland Meadows GM, stated it was their intention to run 720 races this season. The meet would begin the first Monday of October and end on Kentucky Derby Day.

OREGON RACING COMMISSION
SPECIAL COMMISSION MEETING
June 18, 2009
The Oregon Racing Commission will hold a special meeting on
Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 12:30 pm in Room 1A of the Portland
State Office Building located at 800 NE Oregon Street, Portland,
Oregon.
The commission will immediately go into Executive Session to
consider information or records that are exempt from disclosure
pursuant to ORS 192.660(2)(f) and to consult with counsel
concerning its legal rights and duties regarding litigation likely
to be filed pursuant to ORS 192.660(2)(h). The Commission may
also elect to deliberate on contested cases pursuant to ORS 192.690(1).
The commission’s regular monthly meeting will be held as scheduled
at 1:30 pm.
