The Oregon Racing Commission will meet Thursday, August 20, 2009 in Room 1A of the Portland State
Office Building located at 800 NE Oregon Street, Portland, OR. The meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. for a
hearing on proposed rule changes. Following the hearing, the commission will adjourn for lunch and
reconvene at 1:30 p.m. for the balance of the meeting. The commission may go into executive session to
consider information or records exempt from disclosure pursuant to ORS 192.660(2)(f) and/or to consult
with counsel concerning its legal rights and duties regarding litigation likely to be filed pursuant to ORS
192.660(2)(h). The commission may also elect to deliberate on pending contested cases pursuant to
ORS 192.690(1). Additional items may be placed on the agenda after the general mailing of the agenda.
Calls may be made to the commission office the week of the meeting to inquire about possible additions.

Magna "In Discussions" With Potential Buyers

The consulting firm representing Magna Entertainment Corp. in its bankruptcy reorganization is "in discussions" with potential bidders for several of its racetracks, an official with the company said on Thursday.

The Miss Tillamook will go as extra #1 on opening day (Wednesday) at 5 furlongs with a total $3,500 purse. If it doesn't go on Wednesday, it will carry over to the next.

The Hubert Family/Red Robin Purse will be on Saturday's card. It's a $3,500 claiming race at 5 furlongs with a $4,000 purse for Oregon breds, colts and geldings preferred.

Winners get a trophy blanket.

The parent company of horse-track owner Magna Entertainment Corp. is rejecting allegations that it engaged in sham financial transactions with MEC to benefit the man who serves as chairman of both companies.

Rule Changes

On Thursday, August 20, 2009 The Oregon Racing Commission will hold a public hearing on proposed rule amendments relating to the rules of horse racing.

A summary of the changes is provided below:

The cited rules are proposed amendments to horse racing rules which include licensing procedures, prohibited conduct and hearing procedures,
duties, racing requirements and procedures, medication and miscellaneous provisions, and simulcast intrastate off-track wagering facilities.

The Agency requests public comment on whether other options should be considered for achieving the rule’s substantive goals while
reducing negative economic impact of the rule on business.

To celebrate Opening Week at Del Mar, Portland Meadows will be having a special shirt giveaway on Wednesday July 22 and Saturday July 25 2009. Fans who bet $10 dollars on Del Mar races that day will receive the official 2009 Del Mar shirt, that fans at Del Mar in San Diego will not even be able to get until August 8th!

Here is a nice story on named stakes races, courtesy of the Central Oregonian. (And yes, we're pretty sure they meant "Quarter Horse" when they printed "Quarterback"...it's tough for sports guys to break from football).
