An investment related website is curious about a recent SEC filing related to thoroughbred racehorses:
The description is the same throughout each filing at the start: “a recently formed corporation that has acquired 20 thoroughbred racehorses… offering 405,000 shares of common stock at $10.00 per share on a best efforts, all or none basis. Golden Pegasus Racing Incorporated, an entity controlled by The Stronach Group, is currently the sole stockholder.”

Oregon Breeding
Portland, OR — Oregon Championship Day was filled with big performances all day long, including LG Jet who took home the $15,000 Bill Wineberg Stakes on Sunday. Sent off as the heavy 1 to 5 favorite, LG Jet ($2.60) went right to the lead under jockey Luis Torres and set very reasonable fractions in the early going as he led Suesawme in the early going. Midway on the far turn, LG Jet opened up a big lead and continued to dominate through the stretch, winning by an easy two and a half lengths over a late closing Slew the Cat who ran second and Suesawme finished third. LG Jet was bred by Leonard Hammrich and owned by Georganne Hammrich for trainer John Harris.
The stakes action started in race 4 as HVR West Cascadian won a hard fought edition of the $10,000 Oregon His Stakes. Always prominent, HVR West Cascadian and Rocco Bowen was a little bit rank early on but settled into stride. HVR West Cascadian got the lead at the quarter pole over favored Midda’s Gold Touch, but that runner would dig in along with Shamundi as those three battled down the lane. Shamundi actually took the lead in mid-stretch, but HVR West Cascadian battled back to score a win for owner/trainer Chris Hartman. HVR West Cascadian was the biggest upset on the card as he returned $61.80 for a $2 win ticket.
Race 5 was the $15,000 Janet Wineberg and it was maybe the closest finish of the day, as Forty Something prevailed in a long stretch battle with Bahati Gold to win by a nose. Forty Something was the 4/5 favorite and returned $3.60 for the win, but a hard fought win it was, as Juan Gutierrez got everything out of the 2 year old Ben Root trainee. Bahati Gold finished in second while Kenzie Carolina finished a strong third in her debut run. Forty Something is owned by Cookie Root and Dean and Lois Vogt and was bred by Dr. Jack Root.
The $10,000 Oregon Hers produced another nose victory, only this time it was Missisissy ($42.80) and Joe Crispin who got up in the final jump to beat heavily favored Kate Winsalot. Kate Winsalot looked to have the race in hand at the eighth pole, but fatigue set in late and she began to drift out late and when she did that, Missisissy got up for the narrow win. Kate Winsalot finished second a head in front of Legendary Madame who ran third. Missisissy was owned, bred, and trained by Lyle Magnuson.
The $10,000 Lethal Grande Oregon Sprint Championship saw He’s a Goblin score in easy fashion going wire to wire under jockey Mark Anderson. Sent off as the 4/5 favorite, He’s a Goblin ($3.60) opened up a big lead and never looked back, scoring for owners/breeders Jim Fergason and Jeri Johnson.

Nineteen runners entered for the first leg of the McFadden Memorial Sprint Claiming Series
Portland, OR— Nineteen runners were entered into two separate divisions for Leg 1 of the Inaugural McFadden Memorial Spring Claiming Series that begins on Wednesday November 2nd at Portland Meadows. The races were carded as races 7 and 8 on Wednesday and are both $2,500 claiming events going five furlongs. The second leg of the series will be in two weeks on Wednesday November 16th, which is a $4,000 Claiming event with a $5,000 added purse. The finals will be on Wednesday December 7th, which will be a 6 furlong event with a $28,000 added purse. Horses must compete in both the first two legs of the series to advance to the finals, with a point system being used to determine which 12 horses will get into the final field.
The point system for the first two legs:
1st Place ---5 points
2nd Place ---4 points
3rd Place ---3 points
4th Place ---2 points
5th Place--- 1 point
The first of the two divisions of Leg 1 is the 7th race on Wednesday November 2nd which is led by a pair of tough Canadian shippers for trainer Malcolm Beveridge. Colonel Courtney has been running for open $7,500 and $6,500 claiming levels at Hastings Park , and has amassed 24 wins from 103 starts in his brilliant career, including over $377,000 in earnings. His Stable-mate is Rallying Cry who comes off a second place finish for $7,500 and will be ridden by Joe Crispin. Rallying Cry has already earned $328,660 in his career in just 37 starts. Heading up the local runners in this dash are Castle Pines for Nick Lowe and Brainstorm for Rigoberto Velasquez.
The second division is a cast of 9 runners with another tough Beveridge horse, Declan Downs. He’s been a sprint specialist up in Canada and will ship in and be ridden by Joe Crispin. Getrdonegotrdid is always a dangerous sprinter and is coming off the layoff for owner Art McFadden, whose family the Claiming Series is named after. Jonathan Nance will send out a pair of runners and the red-hot Felimon Alvarado barn will send out Deputy Allstar with Jockey Juan Gutierrez on board.
An interesting part of the Claiming Series is that in the first two legs, all runners are up for the claiming prices. So there should be lots of action at the claiming box as trainers and owners might try to claim runners in the first or second leg, so that they have them in the 3rd leg when they are running for a $28,000 added purse.
The McFadden Memorial Claiming Series gets underway on Wednesday November 2nd, with races 7 and 8. Post time for the 7th is 2:48pm (Pacific).
Here are the fields for the McFadden Memorial Claiming Series Leg 1:

For 67 days, the routine has gone unchanged.
Jerry Taketa wakes up in his Vancouver home, says hello to his wife Charlynn, heads to work at the Portland Meadows race track, then returns to his spouse before telling her good night.
This, more or less, has been the ex-jockey’s ritual since 1989. Thing is, for the past 67 days, Charlynn has been dead.

From the Oregonian:
Portland Meadows, which opened in 1946 on the edge of the now-vanished town of Vanport, launches its 2011 season today at noon. Nine races are on the card. Races will be Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday through December and continue on Mondays and Wednesdays in January, February and March. Closing day is March 14.
While thoroughbreds are the stars of the show, horse-racing runs on money. For at least the past decade it's been clear that as dollars have been siphoned from pari-mutual betting into other games of chance, the product coming out of the paddocks has suffered.

From oregonlive.com:
A horse trainer was killed this morning after being kicked by a horse at Portland Meadows.
Just before 7:15 a.m., firefighters were called to the horse racing track at 1001 N. Schmeer.
A female trainer in her late 40s or early 50s sustained severe head trauma after she was kicked by a horse she was working with just outside the stables near a washing area. Her husband, a fellow trainer, was present at the time of the accident, said fire spokesman Paul Corah.
